Vietnam Airlines joins the anti-plastic waste movement.

On June 9, 2019, Vietnam Airlines joined the Alliance against Plastic Waste, committing and declaring action against plastic waste with businesses, associations, and social organizations in Vietnam. The "Green Planet Vietnam Airlines" program begins with the smallest actions:

• Using environmentally friendly materials such as paper cups or biodegradable materials to replace some in-flight tools, supplies, and items made of single-use plastic and non-degradable nylon.

• Changing the packaging of supplies and personal care products for customers such as cosmetic sets, eyeglasses, combs, toothbrush sets, slippers, and earplugs wrapped in plastic bags to reduce waste. Styrofoam bags will be replaced with environmentally friendly cloth bags. Quilted duvets in Business Class packed in a pocket designed for each blanket; the headset has been taken out of its plastic bag and placed on the seat. Achievements: Every month, 172,000 headphone bags and 720,000 blanket bags are reduced.

• Invest in a fleet of new generation aircraft equipped with modern technologies, such as the Boeing 787-9, Airbus A350-900, and Airbus A321neo, which can save 20-25 percent on fuel and reduce emissions by 20-30 percent when compared to the old ones, such as the Boeing 777-200ER, Airbus A330, and Airbus A320/A32.
